Seattle Sam:

The term “trickle-down” is a Keynesian straw man created by the left that pretends that others benefit from higher earning families spending their income. That’s not at all the case. Benefits come from the economic activity of highly productive individuals, who are then highly compensated for those actions. People around the world benefited from the innovative devices that Steve Jobs helped created, not from Jobs spending his personal wealth.

PeakTrader:

What’s a bigger benefit?

A firm with market power, like Microsoft, which created several billionaires and thousands of millionaires using its monopoly to keep prices high, or lower prices for millions of consumers?

---

Seattle Sam:

I invite you to come to Redmond and talk about Microsoft’s “monopoly power”. I’m close enough to hear the resulting laughter from my window.

---

PeakTrader:

You want me to tell them how they became billionaires and millionaires? I think they know.

---

Citizen Buddy:

Peak Trader, then your proprietary trading system does not allow gains in personal wealth by an investor making money in MSFT?

---

PeakTrader:

I’ve benefited when $5 billion flowed into a stock that had a $1 billion market cap. I’m saying there’s a trade-off, e.g. between consumers and producers. It doesn’t come out of thin air, unless it’s the Fed Smile

****

And, billionaires and millionaires can be created by low wages, not just high prices.

****

19th century America and 21st century China are examples.

Uruguay:

Thomas Boyle:

They didn’t really legalize it. They nationalized it. Weed will be legal in Uruguay the way gambling is legal in the US: if the state sells it to you, it’s legal and healthy and good; if anyone else sells it to you, it’s morally repugnant and criminal.
