PeakTrader:
“The FBI also reports that the arrest rate for violent crime was just 172 per 100,000, and for property crimes, it was 531.”
Yet, according to the FBI in Wikipedia, in 2011 there were 386 per 100,000 violent crimes and 2,909 per 100,000 property crimes.
And, most of the violent and property crimes were drug related.
It’s amazing how the “War on Drugs” not only stopped the steep rises in drug use and crimes simultaneously, it reversed them simultaneously.
Major crime rates are down to pre-1964 levels.

Crime rates may be a better measure than arrest or conviction rates.
As a measure of criminal activity.

The data reveal most violent and property crimes are drug related.
Of course, there are other factors (positive and negative) too.

Here’s a chart on property crime rates:

The total property crime rate rose steeply in the ’60s and ’70s, then started to decline, rose again during the crack cocaine epidemic, and then declined again.
