PeakTrader:
Ron, I don’t favor spending lots of money on the military or police. However, we should deal with the real world.
****
“The first SWAT team was formed by the Los Angeles Police Department in 1967 in response to the Watts Riots.”
And:
“During the 1960s, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, and psychedelics came on the scene, and a new generation embraced drugs. With the drug culture exploding, our government developed new laws and agencies to address the problem.
In 1973, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration was created to enforce federal drug laws. In the 1970s, cocaine reappeared. Then, a decade later, crack appeared, spreading addiction and violence at epidemic levels.”
****
It’s amazing, the people who complain about the costs of taxes and regulations don’t mind paying the huge social costs of drugs, e.g. $300 billion a year, which include lost productivity, traffic & work injuries & fatalities, health problems & drug treatment, mental illness, unemployment, crime, domestic violence, child abuse, and other social services.
And, yet they complain about $20 billion a year spent by federal, state, and local governments on people who break drug laws.
****
Moreover, police discovered most people who broke drug laws also broke non-drug laws, including serious violent and property crimes.

Morganovich, maybe, you should run a police department. You can tell the police to stay in their car for several days or weeks, eating donuts, until a suspect comes out of his house, or maybe you can teach them about clairvoyance, to avoid unexpected situations.

Drug dealers are immoral, because they promote a market just to make money regardless of the devastation to society.

William, what Morganovich is trying to say is he has the right to pollute on you as much as he wants, because he has rights.
He has the right, and selfishness, to raise his private benefits at the expense of enormous social costs you’ll pay for, in many ways.
****
Morganovich, I answered your question many times before in many ways.
I don’t have any problem with “responsible” drug users. Unfortunately, when you create millions of responsible drug users, through legalization, you also create millions of irresponsible drug users (and I don’t want to hear about legalization reduces drug use from you again, since I explained the difference between Portugal and the U.S. in detail before – almost everyone knows when you legalize something, you get more of it, like alcohol and tobacco).
****
Alcohol and tobacco aren’t new markets, like the marijuana market.
And I stated before, drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana are complement goods, which make it a powerful combination.
****
Marijuana has been an illegal market. It started to become popular in the ’60s. The “War on Drugs” stopped the steep rise, reversed it and contained it.
****
Anyway, I stated before, marijuana should be decriminalized, not legalized, to where people caught using the drug receive a ticket and pay a hefty fine. Moreover, perhaps, receive one point on their driving record, as the furthest extent of criminalization.
That way resources can be saved for more serious crimes, there’s no criminal record, and government can collect some revenue from fines.
