1. Manage Risk.
2. Be a Good Stock Picker.
3. Wait for Better Opportunities.

Managing risk requires taking advantage of volatility, although sometimes you miss out on further gains or take partial losses, and not buying too many options on one stock, resulting in a low cash position, which can be a trap. Don't buy too much too soon.

Follow few stocks, along with any info, over time to get to know them well. Also, be aware of new info on new stocks (which I don't do enough) that can make big moves quickly, e.g. buying calls before or when they rocket higher or if you missed the big move up, start buying puts, because they often move back down.

A volatile market is a forgiving market.
